India Launches 'World's Cheapest' Tablet

India hopes that the launch of what is being called "the world’s cheapest tablet computer" will help tens of thousands of low-income students connect to the digital world.

The $45 device with a seven-inch color touchscreen, Wi-Fi connectivity, and two USB ports is meant to bridge the digital divide in a country where only three percent of the population has computers.

The world’s cheapest computer is called “Aakash,” the Hindi word for sky. It was the brainchild of the Indian government, which put out an offer for it to be developed. While made by a British-based company, the tablets are being assembled in India.

Where it all began

At age 21, in 1976, Steve Jobs co-founded Apple with Steve Wozniak in Jobs' family garage in Los Altos, Calif. Jobs' father removed his car restoration equipment and brought home a wooden workbench that served as Apple's first manufacturing base. Jobs returned to the empty garage in 1996 to be photographed for Fortune.

The family of former Apple chief executive Steve Jobs said that he died "peacefully" on Wednesday, surrounded by his family. A memorial Web site will be posted.

Jobs passed away at the age of 56. Jobs is survived by his wife Laurene and two children, as well as a daughter from a previous relationship.

Why Google+ Is Cool ?

Circles:
On social networks, privacy is an important issue – especially the need to interact with specific sets of people. For instance you may want to share your Saturday night exploits with your friends, but definitely not with your boss or your clients. Facebook does this with lists while Google+ uses a feature called circles. Users can drag contacts into circles that represent friends, work, weekend cricket group or whatever they choose to name the circle. Google claims this experience is easier and better than Facebook's lists.

Hangouts:
While Facebook chat is a text only feature, Hangouts will enable users of Google + to speak with each other face-to-face using a high-definition group video chat. Facebook could counter this with the help of Microsoft, which is an investor in Facebook and has just bought Skype. A video calling feature using Skype on Facebook could easily take on Hangouts.

Google's 13th Birthday

It's been 13 years since 1998 when two Stanford university students, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, got together to form a company that would change the face of the Internet, for ever.

As Google enters its teenage years the company is well entrenched as the leader in the search engine market with more than 90 per cent of the search share, according to Internet statistics firm StatCounter.

Its Chrome web browser had 22 per cent of the global market in July, Microsoft's Internet Explorer had 42.5 per cent while Mozilla's Firefox had 28 per cent. Google's Android OS is also fast becoming the dominant player in the smartphone market.

For its 13th birthday Google has doodled for itself a photograph that shows Google's 13th birthday celebrations. There is a cake on a table with 13 candles on it, the Google logo sits around the table in party hats and gifts and baloons adding to the celebratory mood.

Google plus launches Offiicially

Google had required invitations to the service since its debut as a "project" in June. But this morning, Google opened the doors of Google+ to all. Google+ has also graduated to being a "beta" product.

"We're nowhere near done, but with the improvements we've made so far, we're ready to move from field trial to beta, and introduce our 100th feature: open sign-ups," Google Senior Vice President of Engineering Vic Gundotra wrote in a blog post. "This way, anyone can visit Google.com/+, join the project, and connect with the people they care about."

Lifting the sign-up restriction comes just two days before Facebook's F8 conference. There, Facebook, the service that caught Google flat-footed and led to the creation of Google+, is expected to introduce a number of new features, potentially including a new music service that would help turn Facebook into more of a media platform. Some reports suggest that Facebook might even unveil a major site redesign.

1: Own the latest version of Photoshop
It’s pretty hard to really experiment with Photoshop if you don’t have your own copy at home. Having the latest version is important too. Particularly with the last two versions, CS3 and CS4, new features are added all the time. These features usually either make your job easier (like the Adjustments panel), or give you tools that didn’t even exist in prior versions (like some of CS4′s 3D capabilities).

I do recommend you purchase your own copy. Please don’t used pirated stuff. If you are a teacher or student who is not using Photoshop for commercial purposes, you are allowed by Adobe to purchase the educational version at about half-price. It is as fully-featured as the non-educational version. You can usually buy this version at college book stores, or online at sites such as creationengine.com.

You are allowed to run your Photoshop software on two machines. I have one copy on my desktop PC and one on my laptop for travel.
